As soon as you see that blue line you almost immediately start to question is it a Boy or girl? Then comes the next question what shall I call him/her?

Although it is fun to randomly pick names and see whether you both agree, when it comes to the last few weeks of pregnancy and you haven’t chosen yet it becomes a different matter all together!

I am of course speaking from experience having been there myself! In the last 6 months of my pregnancy both my husband and I not knowing what our baby’s sex was and completely disagreeing on each other’s name suggestions, decided the fairest way was that I chose the girls name if we had a girl and he in turn chose the boys name if he was a boy.

Of course I gave birth to a boy! We named him Harry (my husband’s choice) I looked at my new baby and to me he didn’t look like a Harry one bit, however we agreed to keep it using the name I chose as his middle name.

Five years later on and he couldn’t look any more like a Harry if he tried!

Homemade baby food

When I started to wean my little boy onto real food I decided that it was best for him if I made the food myself that way I knew exactly what was going in.

I was then able to be creative and make lots of different recipes for him, such as cauliflower cheese, butter nut squash and carrot, all sorts of tasty meals for him, there was only one problem, How was I going to keep it all fresh? The answer? Ice cube trays!

I made a big batch of food then poured into ice-cube trays ready to freeze, when needed I simply popped a cube out heated and it was ready to go!

A baby bath instead of a shower!

A friend of mine lives in a very small house near the centre of town, with two young children. Unfortunately within her bathroom she only has room for a shower, and not a bath. She was telling me the other day how nice it would be to be able to let them enjoy a hot bath instead of leaping in and out of the shower everyday, which as you can imagine is probably very messy!

Consequently I have been searching online, and found that there are products out there which have been invented to help people, who do not have bathing facilities to make their shower in to a baby bath! Have a look for yoursleves!

Pop up place mats!

I am sure every parent can relate to how difficult it is to keep your children engaged at lunch times. If like me you have tried every trick in the book, for example novelty plates and cutlery then I would recommend purchasing some pop up placemats!

They are really sweet, and the kids think it is really great to have a paper character keeping them company at meal times. Some of them come with stickers, so you can dress the characters in different clothes and gives them different expressions. Hours of fun will be had and meal times will seem less of a chore!

Baby Blankets!

I still believe it is the one of the best and certainly one of the most traditional baby products you can give a new born baby. A baby blanket is something which has a practical use for the parent when the child is young, and it can also be put away as a keep sake for when the child grows up. You do not have to spend a fortune, there are plenty of affordable options which are ideal for all occasions. For use in the cot or a pram, they can be taken anywhere and the majority are machine washable.

Another one of my friends has recently given birth, and once again I had the task of buying her a present. As I have mentioned several times, there are loads of great gifts available. One in particular which caught my eye has been a baby photo frame imprint kit. It comes with everything you need to make a unique and personal reminder of the childs early years which you can treasure forever. The clay used is very soft and having tried it myself, it is very easy to get a lovely imprint of your childs foot without too much hassle. Its a bit of fun too!

baby jewellery

When I first think of a present for a baby, the last thing which springs to mind is baby jewellery. I think it is because they are so small I would not have thought parents would want young children wearing jewellery. However, having looked on line, it appears baby jewellery is actually quite popular and there are lots of it available, in many different varieties. You can purchase necklaces, bracelets, bangles and beads! Practically anything you could think of! So if you are thinking of getting an extra special baby gift, I would certainly consider looking around and picking something a little different.

As mentioned previously, one of my best friends has just given birth to a baby boy and I was astounded by the number of gifts the little boy received! The mother and baby were only in a small room, and you could hardly move when I arrived!
I think the most popular presents which you consider buying for the child is a teddy bear of a cuddly toy of some description. I was the same…on hearing of the birth I headed to my local supermarket and purchased the cutest character I could find, in the colour blue of course! Perhaps on refection, it might be more beneficial to give the baby something they will actually use, i.e. nappies etc! Not sue my idea will catch on!

Apparently this is the latest trend to come from across the pond. Of course they are not actually edible cakes! They are an assortment of baby gifts such as blankets, rattles, nappies and soft toys which are carefully arranged to look like a cake! It provides a unique baby gift which is not only attractive to the eye but practical too. The cakes come beautifully decorated and are presented on individual cake boards.
I can definitely imagine receiving one of these would put a smile on any new mums face! Have a look round, there are loads of great cakes available online.
